CHILDREN’S BOOK FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQs:

  1. SAMPLE PACKAGE

  2. REVISIONS

  3. DEPOSITS

  4. REFUND PROCEDURES

1. SAMPLE PACKAGE

What is a Sample Package?

This is if you do not yet know the full look of your main character, or setting. With a sample package this will include a final design of your main character, plus the design of a supporting. character, and one setting.

  • Doing a sample package if unsure of your design will ensure we establish a communication of exactly how your main character and setting will look in the story.

  • It also cuts down on possible revision costs due to not designing and solidifying the look of everything beforehand

2. REVISIONS

What is Defined as a Revision?

Anything not discussed to be included in the conversation about the image that you is just being added to it because you thought of it, asked for it to be one color, and then you saw it and now want to see it as another color.

I will show myself working on the images to you after they are sketched, lined, and colored. During each stage before the final rendering of the images I will ask what you want changed. If you neglect to tell me of a change until after the image is fully complete and now I must go back into the image and change something again that is a revision.

2x Revision

If a revision is too complex like you want a color change and for a character to be redrawn in a completely different pose, change of majority of the background, or color that was not discussed beforehand then I would charge double the revision price if a good chunk of the page needs to be redone or recolored.

3. DEPOSITS

How Does the Deposit Work?

Once the author decides to go with me as their artist I will ask them for their story and page count. The deposit will be 20% of their total number of pages at $50 per page. For example, if it is 20 pages this would make the estimated total of the book $1,000. The down payment would be 20% of this, which is $200.

What is the Purpose of the Deposit?

Deposits save your slot and me time as the artist. You are booking time with me so that if someone else comes along wanting me to do their book for them then I will hold time for you.

If a deposit is not paid and I am filled up with other clients who have paid then a new client who has not paid will not be made a priority. They will be given a time in which I will likely be free in the near future after I am done with another client's story artwork and will be given the choice to be notified through an email wait list.

4. REFUND PROCEDURES

What if I would like to refund my deposit before the start of the project?

If the book is in the beginning stages (within 2 weeks of agreeing to start the book) and then decides they no longer want to continue the book with me as their artist they can get back 50% of their deposit.

After this grace period a deposit is no longer able to be refunded because a slot has been booked and time has been spent on this client that I could have used in order to book someone else.

Also, I start artwork and sketches to show the client and get feedback within this time period so that will also have been time spent on beginning concept artwork for their idea. If they decide to leave within 2 weeks they can receive the sketches of their story I have made in order to show to another artist, these sketches are basically paid for by their deposit. But if it has been past 2 weeks their deposit can no longer be refunded.

This is my rule to advocate for myself as the artist. The effort and time has been spent, and pre-sketches have been made, line work on the first page has likely started.

From the Artist: I reserve the right to decline any project or any works I am not comfortable with creating.
